Gen. 25:34

Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and rose and went on his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. [NASB]

וְיַעֲקֹב נָתַן לְעֵשָׂו לֶחֶם וּנְזִיד עֲדָשִׁים וַיֹּאכַל וַיֵּשְׁתְּ וַיָּקָם וַיֵּלַךְ וַיִּבֶז עֵשָׂו אֶת־הַבְּכֹרָה׃ ס

Comments

Esau despised his birthright --

This means that he did not think much of it. He was reckless and did not see its value.

But Jacob did. He knew the value of the blessing. He was a “violent man” who would take the kingdom of God, even by force. He wanted it and valued it.
