Gen. 25:23

And the LORD said to her, "Two nations are in your womb; And two peoples shall be separated from your body; And one people shall be stronger than the other; And the older shall serve the younger." [NASB]

וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה לָהּ שְׁנֵי [גֹיִים כ] (גֹויִם ק) בְּבִטְנֵךְ וּשְׁנֵי לְאֻמִּים מִמֵּעַיִךְ יִפָּרֵדוּ וּלְאֹם מִלְאֹם יֶאֱמָץ וְרַב יַעֲבֹד צָעִיר׃

Comments

one people shall be stronger than the other --

I assume that the stronger is Israel and I further assume that by strong, He is speaking of physical or military might. I assume this because the “older [Esau] will serve the younger [Jacob].

Why am I this way? --

why then am I this way? The gist of what she is asking: If I am OK and there is nothing wrong with my pregnancy, then why am I like this, with all this tussling about inside of me?

went to inquire of the Lord - It doesn’t tell us how or where she went to inquire.
