A new commandment --

It is a new commandment because it is based on the love that Jesus is going to display not only to them but the entire world. Our love is to be measured by the love that Jesus showed us by laying down His life for us. We rejoice in the love He has demonstrated to us, but we are broken before God with the thought that we should love one another as He loved us. Only by God's grace is this possible.
