Simon Peter therefore gestured to him --

It is not certain, but it appears that Peter was sitting across the table from John. Alfred Edersheim concluded from this that Peter was at the lowest place at the table, too far from John to speak privately.

He further concluded that Judas was in the place of honor, next to Jesus on His left hand. Jesus gave Judas a "morsel" and spoke with him privately.
