John 5:24 Cross Ref --
John 5:22-24

22 For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. 24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears [keeps/guards] My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

Both of these scriptures:

  • Start by describing how God honors His Son:
  • That God will judge those who do not honor the Son.
  • That those who keep His word will live and not die (referring to the life that comes as a result of being free from sin) // Eternal Life vs. Eternal Death

θάνατον οὐ μὴ θεωρήσῃ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα --

Translation: He will in no way [at all/ no way-no how] see Eternal Death.

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers (John 8:51)

The following are the only passages in St. John where exactly the same formula is used, and a comparison of them will make it clear that it means, as does the Hebrew formula on which it is based, that which we express by "never," or "certainly never." "by no means ever," for the negative is in its strongest form (John 4:14, John 8:52 in this John 10:28; John 11:26; John 13:8). The first and last of these passages refer to subjects ("shall never thirst," "shall never wash my feet"), which do not admit any possibility of doubt.

if anyone keeps My word --

This goes with the previous verse. God will judge. If you keep my word you will live, but if not, you will die.
