Which one of you convicts Me of sin? --

This is the liar's dilemma. Jesus challenges them. "Which one of you convicts Me of sin?" They wanted to convict Him, and they realized that they could not. What could they do when they faced the truth? Instead of repenting and humbling themselves, they held on to their pride.

Even when faced with the truth, they refused to let go of their anger and accept Him as their Messiah. Jesus rebuked them. He exposed their hypocrisy. He threatened their position of authority. In short, He was not the Messiah they wanted. Their false messiah would accept them and honor them as the saviors of Israel. Jesus warned them that "if another comes in his own name", the Antichrist, and they will accept him as their messiah because the Antichrist will accept them and praise them.

John 5:43-44

43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him. 44 How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?
