He will delight in the fear of the LORD --

The fear of the Lord is knowing that we cannot survive without a living and constant connection with God by His Spirit. It is knowing that ALL our life comes from this connection with God.

I had a question once about the "fear of the Lord." I wanted to know what it meant and so I asked God to teach me:

He showed me a Gemeni capsule orbiting the earth. One of the astronauts was doing a "space walk." He was about 20 feet from the capsule, connected to it by a tether. Not only did the tether keep him from drifting off, all of his cooling water and oxigen were in the tether. In the vision, I saw a giant pair of scissors heading for the tether. Fear filled my heart. If that connection was severed, the astronaut would die. "This," He told me, "is the fear of the Lord." IT IS KNOWING THAT WE NEED THAT CONSTANT CONNECTION WITH GOD OR WE WILL DIE. Many people treat our relationship with God too casually, as if it were optional.

NOTE: The tether umbilical cord for Ed White's spacewalk during the Gemini 4 mission included the following elements:

  • Oxygen hose: This silicone rubber hose supplied the astronaut with oxygen from the spacecraft.
  • Nylon tether: This flat nylon tether had a high tensile strength (1,000 pounds). It physically secured the astronaut to the capsule and prevented drifting.
  • Communications lead: An electrical lead provided voice communication between the astronaut and the spacecraft.
  • Electrical connectors: Four electrical connectors transmitted suit and systems data.
  • Protective covering: A heat-treated gold-layered nylon sheath protected the components from heat and damage.

He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make a decision by what His ears hear --

Jesus relied on the Holy Spirit and not by what his physical senses told Him. We need to learn this lesson. Our physical senses are not sufficient to make an informed decision about many things. We often judge the situation by what we see and hear, but we often misread what is the truth. Jesus told us tha the Holy Spirit would lead us into "all truth" (John 16:13). Jesus identified the Holy Spirit as the "Spirit of Truth."

We need to be careful to rely on the Holy Spirit before making a decision or taking an action. It only takes a minute. Stop and listen before you move. He will tell you if you are heading in the wrong direction.
