Let Us Reason Together --

FORGIVENESS AND RESTORATION ARE POSSIBLE, even as bad as you’ve been, your sins and wickedness can be washed and removed.

People tend to think that there is a point at which God will not forgive sin. That there is deed that is so bad that God refuses to forgive it.

I don't think that this is true. God forgives all sins if the repentance is real and honest. The problem is not with God, but with men.

  • We simply cannot believe that God will forgive some things. God is willing, but we can't believe it. Probably because we have limits on what we will forgive others for injuries against us. But God forgave King Manassah after all the evil he had done.

    Manasseh's Repentance
    2 Chron. 33:10-13 "The Lord spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they paid no attention. 11 Therefore the Lord brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who captured Manasseh with hooks and bound him with chains of bronze and brought him to Babylon. 12 And when he was in distress, he entreated the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. 13 He prayed to him, and God was moved by his entreaty and heard his plea and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord was God."Video

  • OR
  • The repentance is not genuine. We merely want to escape the consequences of our actions. We are sorry that we've been caught.

Come now, and let us reason together --

God is reasonable and understanding. He speaks only the truth. This makes reasoning together possible. It is impossible to have any meaningful negotiations with a person who lies or conceals the truth.

God tells us that we can be forgiven. He told the people what they needed to do. The same is true for us:

  • Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
  • Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight.
  • Cease to do evil,
  • Learn to do good;
  • Seek justice,
  • Reprove the ruthless,
  • Defend the orphan,
  • Plead for the widow.
  • Consent and obey (do not rebel)

Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; --

This appears to be a reference to the scarlet ribbon that was tied to Azazel (the scapegoat) at Yom Kippur. The ribbon would turn from red to white if the sacrifice was accepted. This would mean that our sins had been covered.

God is telling them that if they repent (demonstrated by honest and sincere actions), then their sins would be wiped away. God tells us that He wants to forgive us . . . for His own sake. This means that God takes no pleasure in discipline:

Isaiah 43:25

I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions
for My own sake,
And I will not remember your sins.
